GUNS ON THE ROOF: 'Last Orders' – (EP) 5/5
By Colin Jackson - Is this Music - 6th June 2008
It's hard to believe that these four lads from Leeds have an average age of only nineteen. (Even harder for me to comprehend that when I saw them at WASTED, they can only have averaged seventeen!) They are so solid, so tight and just so bloody good!
Taking all the best bits from old-skool punk and presenting it in a modern day fashion, this three track single just explodes with punch-the-air chanted choruses, prominent bass lines and pounding drums interspersed with aggressive guitar riffs. The title track is another song I have listened to recently that reminds me of DA SKYWALKERS from Sweden. Perhaps it's the rasping sound and distinctive delivery of the vocals?
'So Tired' is even more frantic and furious than the opener with the drumming style serving as a sharp reminder (as any were needed) that this is not just a noisy indie-type record. It's PUNK pure and simple!
'Michael Myers' is the third and final track on the EP. It is more toned-down than the other songs and the vocals are a bit more soft and relaxed. The chorus is more harmonious, but still eminently shout-a-long punk.
Guns On The Roof play Glasgow's Rockers on 26th September. It's already in my diary!
